What’s in a name? Everything.
Poke Cake
Better than Sex Cake
or as the unimaginative people call it
Better than Anything Cake.
If it’s not better than sex, then really what’s the point? You might as well call it “Better than Cake Cake” or “Better than taking a shower cake” … Yawn. Let’s move on.

One of the many perks of changing up this recipe is making up names depending on the type of cake batter you choose to the luxury drizzle you pour over it. I’m going to start out with my favorite, Naughty Sex Cake. It’s made with Devil’s Food Cake Mix and that’s not really even the naughty part.
Ok, so it’s really Turtle Poke Cake but that just sounds kind of gross.
There is this one time I did actually witness turtles having sex and believe me you don’t wake up thinking, “I am going to see turtle porn today!” but then you do and your world changes.
You didn’t come here to read about that, so here’s the good stuff!
Turtle Poke Cake
Ingredients:
1 - 15 ounce box devil's food cake mix
(and ingredients on box: eggs, vegetable oil)
1 - 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
(and ingredients on box: eggs, vegetable oil)
1 - 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 small jar caramel ice cream topping (or try salted caramel ice cream topping)chopped pecans (optional)
1 - 8 ounce package of Heath Bar Bits of Brickle (toffee bits)
1 container of Cool Whip
1 container of Cool Whip
Mix the cake batter according to the package directions.
Bake cake in a 9 x 13 greased baking pan according to package directions.
Allow to cool.
Then, poke holes using the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes about an inch apart.
Pour/drizzle the sweetened condensed milk into the holes and do the same with the caramel ice cream topping.
Drizzle it all over the cake, making sure to hit the sides and corners too!
These toppings work best if not refrigerated, if it’s too thick because they were refrigerated, simply warm it by running hot tap water over the can or jar.
Then, pop the cake into the fridge to completely cool.
After about 30 or so minutes, frost with Cool Whip and top with chopped pecans and the toffee bits. It’s best after a few more hours in the fridge, but around here sometimes we can’t wait that long!
Keep the cake covered in the fridge, it stays fresh for quite a while!
*I use about ¼ of the bag of toffee bits because even this sweet tooth has an overdose with too much toffee!
*You can also add mini semi-sweet chocolate chips to the topping.
I’d like to take a moment to thank Mindy, my SIL who, on one of her visits here to Texas, cooked for Merle and I the few days she was here. We were a little buzzed on wine and oh so full of good food the entire time she was here, it was AWESOME.
She’s the one who got me hooked on this cake. I watched her make it and knew that I had to get back in the kitchen to make this myself, then, I found Pinterest and the rest is history! I’ll be sure to post whenever I make any of the other millions of variations I’ve found online.
Having been in chronic pain for over 30 years has been life altering. I had to put cooking on pause for a few years, but I am proud of myself for pushing through and getting back in the kitchen whenever I’m able!
Here are some photos for you to see the process!
